I say it all the time: If you’ve never had a bad spray tan, you know someone who has. Or at the very least... you’ve seen one walking down the street. 

You’ve also seen really great spray tans! So great you never even suspected they were fake. That’s the most difficult part of our job: convincing people those spray tanning nightmares don’t have to become reality. 

Here are three ways to ensure your next faux glow is the thing dreams are made of.

Choose a professional.

There’s a time and a place for an automated booth spray tan or a self-tan, but your life’s most special occasions probably aren’t them. I understand professional spray tans can be pricey for some, but if you want the best results, you need to choose a reputable professional. A simple web search can usually point you in the right direction. Be sure to read reviews and check social media channels to see photos of a professional’s work. No photos or reviews? You may want to choose someone else.

Be realistic about your results.
Fair girl with red hair who burns within minutes in the sun? I hate to break it to you, but you’re never going to have skin that looks like J. Lo’s. A natural, but noticeable outcome is always my suggestion. Just wanting a glow? That’s great, too! While we can make you super dark if that’s your preference, just know the further away you go from your natural skin tone, the more unnatural the final result will look and the worse it will fade.

Do your part.

Your professional should give you instructions on how to prep your skin for the best results. Follow these directions to a tee! Exfoliation and the things you do leading up to your appointment are the most important steps to desired results. The professional you choose will give you guidelines on how to maintain those results, as well. Do what he or she suggests and you’ll be good to glow.
